Plan Reading: Structural Plans
This Academy session provides attendees with the knowledge to interpret drawings that show how a commercial building stands up—the skeleton of the structure.
Attendees will learn:
- The purpose and types of structural plans
- How to understand structural symbols, notes, and line types (“reading the code”)
- Foundation plans and footing layouts
- Structural framing plans
- Sections, elevations, and structural details
- How to read structural schedules
- How to coordinate with other trades

- Structural Plans, 12/4/25
- Architectural Plans, 1/6/26
- Mechanical Plans, 1/27/26
- Plumbing Plans, 2/17/26
- Electrical Plans, 3/10/26
- Special Systems, 3/31/26
It is recommended to participate in all Plan Reading classes in-person. If attending virtually, you will miss the hands-on activities in this session.
