Structural Plan Reading

This Academy session provides attendees with the knowledge to interpret drawings that show how a commercial building stands up—the skeleton of the structure.

Attendees will learn:

• The purpose and types of structural plans
• How to understand structural symbols, notes, and line types (“reading the code”)
• Foundation plans and footing layouts
• Structural framing plans
• Sections, elevations, and structural details
• How to read structural schedules
• How to coordinate with other trades

The Plan Reading series consists of these sessions:

   2. Structural Plans – 6/4/26

   3. Civil Plans – 7/14/26

   4. Architectural Plans – 8/11/26

   5. Mechanical Plans – 9/8/26

   6. Plumbing Plans – 10/20/26

   7. Electrical Plans – 11/10/26

   8. Special Systems – 12/15/26

It is recommended to participate in all Plan Reading classes in-person. If attending virtually, you will miss the hands-on activities in this session.
